SAIL members made a contribution to the Coordinated Ocean Wave Climate Project (COWCLIP)

During the last couple of months Rita Markina and Vitali Sharmar of SAIL developed a global 6-hourly resolution hindcast of wind waves.

Hindcast was simulated using WAVEWATCH spectral wave model and MERRA-2 forcing and covers the period from 2017 onwards. This is IORAS contribution to the Coordinated Ocean Wave Climate Project (COWCLIP) aiming on the generation of wave climate projections (ultimately of global extent) and comprehensive assessments of their cascading uncertainty. This hindcast will be used for developing wind wave projections within IPCC 6th Assessment Report.

Our further contributions to (COWCLIP) will be high resolution regional North Atlantic wind wave hindcast and wave grids based on visual observations from ICOADS developed by Vika Grigorieva.
